Google has launched Personal Intelligence for Gemini which is a new opt-in capability that integrates data from Gmail, YouTube, Search and Photos to provide more personalized conversational context. This feature is rolling out over the coming week to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. across web, Android and iOS platforms for the next level help.
As you are in the USA, then check for this feature by heading to the Gemini app or web portal and selecting Settings > Personal Intelligence where you can toggle on the specific apps you want Gemini to access.
This Personal Intelligence has powerful features like retrieving specific details from your personal items like emails and photos to answer your questions. This feature works across text, photos, and video to provide “uniquely tailored answers”, Google says.
When you enable this Personal Intelligence then Gemini accesses your data to answer your specific requests and to do things for you, however this data “already lives at Google securely, you don’t have to send sensitive data elsewhere to start personalizing your experience. You will be able to use temporary chats to have a conversation with Gemini without personalization and Gemini focus to avoid making proactive assumptions about sensitive data like your health that it will discuss this data with you if you ask.
Instead, it only learns from the specific questions you ask and the answers it gives you. For example, if you ask it to find a photo of your car, it uses that specific interaction to improve its skills, but it doesn’t use the actual photo or your other private files to train itself.
